It is very important to use specific design criteria for the parts manufactured by each process, such as welding, casting, forging, extrusion, molding, stamping, turning, milling, grinding, powder metallurgy (sintering), plastic molding process

Avoid designing right-handed or left-handed (mirrored) parts. The product should be designed so that the same part can operate in both right-hand and left-hand modes. If the part cannot work in both modes, add functions for right-hand and left-hand parts to make them the same. Another way is to use pairs of parts instead of using different parts for the front and back, top and bottom, and left and right respectively.

Design parts that are as symmetrical as possible from every "perspective" (from the perspective of sketches), so that parts do not need to be oriented in assembly. Symmetrical parts will not be installed upside down, which eliminates a major quality problem in the process of manual assembly. In automatic assembly operation, symmetrical parts do not need special sensors or mechanical devices to correctly position them. Although manufacturing symmetrical parts has additional costs (additional holes or any other necessary functions), this will save multiple costs because it avoids the development of complex orientation devices and reduces quality problems.
