IEC Develops Seamless Polyurethane Expansion Joint for Yuguang Expressway

December 27, 2024

The Yuguang Expressway, connecting Chongqing and Guang’an, is a vital infrastructure project featuring a six-lane dual carriageway designed for a maximum speed of 100 km/h. Spanning key districts such as Yubei, Beibei, and Hechuan, this expressway required advanced engineering solutions to address its unique challenges.

One of the critical issues involved the longitudinal widening sections of new and old bridges. The connections between these structures required expansion joints that could handle uneven settlement and deformation while maintaining structural reliability. Additionally, the design had to ensure a smooth and seamless driving experience for vehicles crossing these transition zones.

To meet these requirements, IEC’s research and development team engineered an innovative seamless polyurethane expansion joint. This new structure combines excellent adaptability to multidirectional deformation with a design that provides a smooth and comfortable driving experience. The joint’s performance has been rigorously tested, including static load simulations and fatigue tests involving 30,000 cycles, proving its durability and effectiveness.

The successful application of this expansion joint on the Yuguang Expressway demonstrates IEC’s capability to deliver cutting-edge solutions for complex infrastructure challenges while prioritizing driving comfort and structural performance.
