On November 1, 2022, IEC Inc. hosted the inaugural meeting of the drafting committee for the Chinese Engineering Construction Standardization Association’s technical standard, “Technical Guidelines for Bridge Bearing Reaction Force Monitoring” (referred to as the “Standard”). Held in Chengdu with over 20 participants joining virtually, the meeting was chaired by Zhang Xuejun, Secretary-General of the Urban Transportation Committee.
Zhang introduced the participating leaders and experts, announced the drafting committee members, and outlined key requirements for the Standard:
1. The drafting must adhere to engineering construction standards and comply with relevant national laws and regulations.
2. The Standard should align with international benchmarks and coordinate with related force-measuring bearing and monitoring standards.
3. Progress should meet timelines, ensuring high-quality completion to benefit the industry.
IEC Chairman Darcy Wu opened the meeting by welcoming participants and emphasizing the significance of the Standard. He highlighted how reliable monitoring data from force-measuring bearings, traceable to metrological standards, is crucial for improving structural safety assessments and advancing intelligent infrastructure. The Standard is both a necessary and urgent contribution to the industry.
Jason Wang, Technical Center Director of IEC, presented the background, guiding principles, main content, task allocation, and work plan for the Standard’s development. Experts offered valuable feedback on implementation challenges and priorities.
The meeting featured lively discussions on the Standard’s framework and focus areas, leading to the finalization of its structure, responsibilities, and timeline. Darcy Wu closed the session by expressing gratitude to all participating organizations and experts for their constructive input. He reaffirmed IEC’s commitment to collaborating with all parties to deliver a high-quality Standard on schedule.
